Uplifting Youth Voices

Inspiring Change Through Poetry and Advocacy

One of the most powerful fuels for change is the voice of our youth. As we all work to create safer, more thriving communities for the next generation, we also recognize the importance of creating space for their thoughts and ideas and listening intently to what they have to say. So in this space, we lift up youth voices as they share their reflections on the challenges of today and their vision for tomorrow.

No longer must we bury our heads in the sand and ignore. So let’s… GET UNITED NOW!

A special moment on June 3 was when one of our local high school students, Maelyn Carter, shared an original piece of poetry that she wrote for National Gun Violence Awareness Day to kick off the "Wear Orange Walk."

A passionate poet, published author, musician, participant in the Rebirth Enterprise Youth Development Program, and advocate for her peers, Maelyn enjoys empowering other youth to use their voice through written and spoken word.
